Patron Code of Conduct

WAYNE PUBLIC LIBRARY PATRON CODE OF CONDUCT

 

This code of conduct is designed to insure the rights and safety of all patrons and staff, as well  as to protect the library property, facility, and materials. This policy applies to the interior and  the exterior of the building and all library property. The Library is not responsible for lost or  stolen items.  

All patrons must have shoes and shirt and be free from offensive body odor upon entering the  premises. If this rule is violated, the patron will be asked to leave until the problem is corrected. 

Sleeping, improper use of restrooms (including but not limited to bathing, shaving, washing,  changing clothes, smoking, etc. ), using any personal electronic at a level which disturbs others,  or leaving children unsupervised or unattended on library premises, will result in a warning at  staff discretion. The patron will be asked to leave for the day. A second warning for the same  offense will result in immediate ejection from the library premises and a possible loss of Library  privileges for a period of up to six months.  

The following conduct may result in a loss of library privileges for a period from 6 months to 3  years for a repeat offense after receiving one warning: 

Patrons who engage in conduct that disrupts the normal operation of the library, or is  abusive or threating in language or gesture, or unreasonably loud will be asked to leave. Soliciting, petitioning, or distributing written materials or canvassing for political,  charitable, or religious purposes inside the Library or on the premises that impedes  access to the Library will be asked to vacate the premises for the day.  

Interfering with free passage into the Library building by placing bicycles, skateboard,  backpacks or any other item that interferes with entering the building or operating  roller skates, skateboard, or other similar devices on Library premises will be asked to  leave. 

The following offenses are PROHIBITED: 

Parking vehicles on Library premises for any NON LIBRARY reason is prohibited.  Violators may be towed at the owner’s expense after one warning is issued.  Smoking or use of tobacco/nicotine products, including electronic, in the library building  or near an entrance is completely prohibited.  

Animals are not allowed inside the Library (with the exception of already trained and  certified service animals), except as part of a Library event. No animal is to be left  tethered and unattended on the Library premises. 

Any of the above offenses may be met with a warning and or expulsion from the Library. The  penalty may be for one day or for up to 3 years depending on the severity of the offense.  Individuals who repeatedly violate the code of conduct may not be warned multiple times for  the same offense and may face permanently being excluded from the Library.
